CHARACTER INFO

• Character Name: Nancy Wheeler
• Character Age: 18
• Character Canon: Stranger Things
• Canon Point: The end of the fourth season

• Character History: wiki link time!
• Character Personality:
— Positive Trait: Intelligent Nancy was hella studious in school, with a high GPA and studying ferociously for tests. When Barb disappeared she flung herself into investigating what happened, to figure out the truth. Her stint at the newspaper saw her investigating stories that she’d been ordered not to, but the stories were connected to what was going on with the Upside Down and the Mind Flayer. It still got her fired, but it was important information and pieces of the puzzle all the same. Her stint as an investigative reporter continued with her working for her school newspaper. When another student was murdered, she started investigating again. And that investigation led to her playing a huge part in discovering that Vecna was Henry Creel. She ends up being something of the planner of the group, helping put together plans for various operations and how it’s best to execute them.
— Positive Trait: Brave Nancy’s got this in spades. She literally yeeted herself into another dimension to try and find (and save) Barb, and at the time absolutely fuck-all was known about the Upside Down. She had no idea what she was going into. Just that she needed to go, because Barb. She baited monsters with her blood. Dove into a lake (and into the Upside Down) without hesitation after Steve got yanked back down into the water/gate. She didn’t let Vecna’s action traumatize her into uselessness. Went to go shoot Vecna in the FACE in his home territory. (All the more determined because of the aforementioned actions using her guilt against her.) Even though she might be scared, she still goes into danger. Because she needs to. Because others need her to.
— Positive Trait: Kindness/Caring Nancy has an incredibly kind, caring heart. It drives her to investigate what happened to Barb, so she could know what happened to her friend, and give Barb’s parents some kind of closure, even if it could never be the full truth. When investigating the deaths of fellow students, she approached her reporting kindly when it came to people involved/witnesses, wanting only to tell true stories, instead of the gossip her coworkers relied on and were more interested in. She tries to cheer Dustin up at the Snow Ball when he’s been turned down by the girls he’s asked to dance, asking him to dance and giving him a pep talk. (And telling him he’s her favourite of all her brother’s friends.)

— Negative Trait: Denial There’s never really any denial about the weirder shit going down, but personal life-wise? THAT’S where Nancy’s denial mainly lies. She struggled with frustration about her relationship with Jonathan, how they’re long distant and barely talk anymore, but once they’ve reunited she’s firmly denying that there’s problems in their relationship. It’s fine! Everything’s fine! Well, not the whole portals opening and the Upside Down starting to bleed into Hawkins a little thing. But their relationship is GREAT! Except not. (There’s MORE denial towards Steven, denying that they’d reconnected, that there’s been MOMENTS since the moment she dove into the Upside Down to rescue him.) She literally avoids visiting him in season 4. (There’s avoidance on both sides.) It’s not until there’s literally the threat of death that she (and Jonathan) stop with the denial about their relationship. (This is past her current canon point, though.)
— Negative Trait: Stubborn Nancy refuses to let herself be damseled, chafing at the misogynistic treatment from her coworkers and she doubles down on proving she can do anything she needs to do. Especially wanting to earn their approval instead of their ridicule. Sometimes to her detriment. That stubbornness to want to earn respect, to prove herself to the people who mocked and ridiculed her, leads her to make decisions that aren’t necessarily the most thought through. Like going against the orders of her boss and looking into things that she wasn’t supposed to. And that’s how she gets fired, along with Jonathan.
— Negative Trait: recklessness Nancy is reckless. SO RECKLESS. She'll go haring off headlong into danger without thought, to protect someone else. To try to find someone else. To learn what she needs to know. She flings herself headlong into the Upside Down to try and find Barb, when she had NO IDEA what was on the other side. Her borderline obsessive drive to get answers for her friend is what drives her to become a reporter. But that job is second to figuring out the Upside Down and getting justice for Barb. And others, when there are more mysterious murders connected to the Upside Down. She dives in after Steve with absolutely NO hesitation when he gets yanked back down into the lake, and through the gate that lies at the bottom of it. She outright lies to get information on Victor Creel, to be able to go talk to him. A dude who has been convicted of murdering his family. She storms Vecna's lair with Robin and Steve to stop him from opening the gates and to try and end him for good. There not a lot of thought for her own safety. And a lot for the safety of others.
